Which is the best option for website – Responsive Web Design or Adaptive Web Design?

Amit Patriwala

The Idea behind RWD (Responsive Web Design) and AWD (Adaptive Web Design) are similar but their implementation is different.

If you are a programmer then you can easily understand it, the RWD implement client side and AWD implement server side. Now, I guess I need to simplify the term, In RWD is client side meaning the whole page is delivered to the respective device (Desktop computer / mobile / tablet) and then change their view accordingly device browser size. In AWD is server side meaning the web server is detected the device attribute and delivered the optimized site.

So the difference, AWD it’s the server working hard to deliver an optimized page and for RWD, it’s the user device working hard to deliver an optimized page.

Now a quick question?

We always suggest to go with the Responsive Web Design for your company website or personal website but in typical web application development where we need to take care for user experience then we always suggest to go with Adaptive Web Design.

Step 2: You need to design the iPad or Android size website design

Step 3: You need to design the Mobile size website design

Step 4: You need to design the layout or size as per the user experience

Step 5: Define a viewport as per the design and implement it

I have already said that Adaptive Web Design concept only use for the complex web application not for the… Click To Tweet

Let’s discussion the Responsive Web Design development

In RWD layout is a little bit tricky because it’s design on % instead of fixed width. In design, RWD takes same steps as AWD but in development, there are many readymade frameworks available for RWD e.g. 960 Grid System, The 1140 CSS Grid, Golden Grid System, Bootstrap and much more.

The drawback of AWD easier approach is that the final results or output do not always display the best for a wide variety of screen sizes because you never know your target audience accessibility. The RWD provides the optimal viewing experience of a website, no matter what type of device the web user is seeing it on.

The AWD take a much time to load and it depends on the web server means RWD is faster.
