Optimizing your website for mobile use is no longer an option. It is a given. Website analytics show that at least 60% of the traffic visiting websites in the past 12 months are mobile users. Businesses not taking advantage of mobile marketing are therefore missing out on a large piece of the pie. The World Has Gone Mobile – Relationship is First Marketing for a Mobile World

The Mobile marketing, however, is not as easy as it sounds. Just as many companies today underestimate the power of mobile marketing, many of those making use of mobile websites underestimate the importance of responsive design in mobile marketing. You can check Mobile Marketing Pitfalls.

Key Points in Designing Mobile or Responsive Sites Click To Tweet

A website that has the responsive design is one that will adapt (respond) to the screen on which it is being viewed. The website adjusts automatically so that it fits into the screen of the device on which you are viewing it from.

Responsive design is very important for mobile marketing as it allows mobile phone users to view and use your website. However, responsive design is also important for a use of websites on other devices. In general, there are four screen sizes that responsive websites are designed to adapt to. These includes mobile phones, tablets, laptops and smaller desktops as well as widescreen desktop monitors.

A responsive design ensures that visitors to your website have a pleasant experience while using your website. This means that the website should adapt to you’re the visitors’ needs and not the other way round. A good browsing experience on different devices will keep more users on your website.

There are two vital points to consider that will ensure your users have the best possible experience when using a responsive website:

  1. There is no need to write new content for your website. You simply have to adopt the content by selecting the most important content from your primary website and ensuring this information is what appears when the website adjusts to a smaller screen. Remember that mobile users simply want to get the information they need and get out. They are often not too concerned at the appearance of your website. It is, therefore, important to ensure that the most important information can be easily retrieved from your website.
  2. It is also important to consider the layout of your website. Responsive websites on mobile phones are typically in zoom out mode. This means that the mobile user can view the entire page before zooming in. This is good only if you have organized the layout of your website such that the user can find information easily. They can, therefore, zoom in on the area where the information they want is centered.

It is important to place yourself in the shoes of visitors to your website. Try and experience your website from different devices so that you can appreciate what your visitors go through.
